Planet of the Apes open across the U.S. in 1968. The sci-fi classic based on Pierre Boulle’s novel stars Charlton Heston and features pioneering make up, avant-garde score and one of the greatest endings in film history. The film is followed by four sequels, a TV series, comic books, a remake and reboot film series. It is included on multiple American Film Institute best-of lists and in 2001, the film is selected for inclusion in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry.
