Ken Russell is born in Southampton, England in 1927. The director, despite early acclaim for Women in Love, is known mostly for a career of controversial and provocative films, including The Devils, Altered States, Gothic, The Lair of the White Worm and The Fall of the House of Usher. He died in 2011.
