The first Halloween parade and trick-or-treating takes place in the town of Hiawatha, Kansas in 1914. The events are organized and largely funded by Elizabeth Krebs, in an attempt to save her own home and others after years of being vandalized by local children on the night. It is one of the first recorded modern celebrations of Halloween in the United States.
