Artist and author Edward Gorey is born in Chicago in 1925. Gorey’s distinct pen-and-ink drawings became known for telling macabre and darkly humorous stories in typically Victorian or Edwardian settings in more than 100 books. He also famously provided the animated introduction for PBS Mystery! series. He died in 2000.
