Creepy Cocktails: Vincent Price’s New Fashioned

Vincent Price is most often noted as a horror film icon, but the creepy-voiced actor had talents that reached beyond his chilling cackle. Price and his wife, Mary, were also known for hosting elaborate dinner parties. In 1965, the couple wrote a cookbook called A Treasury of Great Recipes, featuring a collection of the recipes for the couple’s favorite meals from around the world. The book also offers cocktail recommendations to pair with all the delicious meals the book can help you create. In honor of Vincent’s Price birthday on May 27, we are toasting with Price’s “New Fashioned.” The actor’s interpretation of an old fashioned uses bitters and sugar cubes like a traditional old fashioned, but also utilizes club soda for a fun and fizzy take on a classic. Irenia in Santa Ana will prepare this drink for you upon request.

Vincent Price’s New Fashioned Cocktail

1 lump of sugar

3 dashes Angostura bitters

1 1/2 ounces light Canadian whiskey

Splash of club soda

1 twist lemon

1 cherry

Place the sugar in a glass. Add the bitters and club soda, then stir with a spoon to dissolve the sugar. Add the whiskey, ice cube and garnish with the twist and the cherry. – Text and Recipe by Sarah Mosqueda
