Harold Eugene “Doc” Edgerton is born in Fremont, Nebraska in 1903. The father of the modern strobe light received his PhD in electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology when he began using the stroboscope to study synchronous motors. Edgerton also played a role in the development and use of sonar and deep-sea photography. He died in 1990.
