This Day in Halloween: "The Blob," starring Steve McQueen, opens across the U.S. in 1958.

The Blob opens across the U.S. in 1958. The cheap drive-in horror film is notable mostly for being Steve McQueen’s first movie role, but is also a good example of Cold War paranoia that permeates films of the 1950s and early 1960s. The theme song, written by Burt Bacharach and Mack David also became a hit, reaching 33 on the Billboard charts. The movie was released as a double feature with I Married a Monster from Outer Space.
