The Brute Man opens across the U.S. in 1946. Actor Rondo Hatton’s final film — about a man seeking revenge on those he blames for disfiguring him — was made by Universal, but sold off to Poverty Row production house Producers Releasing Corporation because the studio didn’t want to be seen as exploiting Hatton’s disfigurement and declining health from acromegaly. Despite negative reviews and it being considered a lost film for decades, the film develops a cult following.
