Misery opens across the U.S. in 1990. Rob Reiner’s psychological horror film is based on Stephen King’s book about a novelist held captive by a fan, and features an Oscar-winning performance by Kathy Bates. The film is a critical and box office success and one of King’s personal favorite film adaptations of his books, as well as appearing on several ‘best of’ lists.
