Black Sunday opens in the U.S. in 1961. Iconic Italian giallo director Mario Bava’s first film is an attempt to capitalize on Hammer Films’ success and make a film for the U.S. market. The film is trimmed, re-dubbed and re-scored for American audiences by American International Pictures. Though not successful in Italy, the film is a hit abroad and has grown in regard since its release.
