The Bat opens across the U.S. in 1959. The thriller is the third film version of the novel The Circular Staircase. The first two were made during the silent era. The story was also a play in 1920. None met with great success and this version, starring Vincent Price, fares about the same, but has since grown in critical regard. Another version of the story also appeared as an episode of the 1950s TV show Climax!
