Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho opens across the U.S. in 1960. Hitchcock’s most famous film was shocking and controversial on its release, but has since come to be regarded as a classic. Pioneering in its depiction of violence and sexuality, it also features one of the most famous scenes and most famous musical themes in cinema history. In 1992, the film was preserved in the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry.
