Brian De Palma is born in Newark, N.J. in 1940. The writer/director is famous for thrillers, and for paying homage to directors like Francis Ford Coppola, Jean-Luc Godard, Sergei Eisenstein and especially Alfred Hitchcock in films like Dressed to Kill, Body Double, Carrie, The Untouchables, Scarface, Blow Out, Sisters, and Obsession. He also retold classic horror in The Phantom of the Paradise.
