The Vampire Lovers opens across the U.S. in 1970. The Hammer horror film is a boundary pushing example of the company’s “bloodshed and bosoms” formula, featuring lesbian vampires in the first of what is referred to as the Karnstein vampire trilogy, that includes 1971’s Lust for a Vampire and 1972’s Twins of Evil.
