The first issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine hits newsstands in 1958. Edited by Forrest J Ackerman and featuring lots of photos and vivid artwork, the highly influential publication covered the entire history of horror from the silent era up to that point and ran for 25 years until shuttered in 1983. A brief revival in the 1990s was not successful and spurred a lawsuit in the late 1990s that awarded Ackerman $720,000 in damages. The judgement was never paid.
