Suspiria opens in Italy in 1977. Dario Argento’s influential supernatural horror film is the first of his witchcraft-themed Three Mothers trilogy and stars Jessica Harper. The film is a hit in Europe and the U.S. and develops a cult following around its visuals and music score. It is followed by the films Inferno and The Mother of Tears, as well as a remake.
