Mark of the Devil opens across the U.S. in 1972. The controversial two-year old German exploitation horror film is already banned in the U.K. for it graphic violence, but a marketing campaign, including the tagline “Positively the most horrifying film ever made” and sick bags handed out to audience members, make the film a hit. A sequel would follow in 1973.
