Two Thousand Maniacs! opens across the U.S. in 1964. The Southern gore film is the second of what is known as “The blood trilogy” by director Herschell Gordon Lewis and is shot in 15 days. The film is severely cut by the MPAA, plays mostly at drive-ins in the South, but immediately becomes a cult hit.

Archie Comics Publications launches imprint Archie Horror in 2015. Based on the successes of the first issues of Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the new imprint allows the 76-year-old company to explore dark, adult subject matter using it’s classic comic characters, including Jughead: The Hunger, Vampironica, and Blossoms 666. Two TV shows would follow based on Archie and Sabrina.

Paul Morrissey’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic is a provocative arthouse dark satire, known for its gore and explicit sex – and in some theaters – 3D presentation. Despite mixed reviews, the film is a minor hit on its release and has become an influential cult favorite. Regardless of the marketing ploy, Warhol had little to do with the film.

The film is a minor hit on its release and was named by the Infectious Diseases Society of America in 2003 as the "most significant, scientifically accurate,” film of the genre.

The Spanish language version of Dracula premieres in Havana, Cuba in 1931. Made simultaneously with the English-language version that stars Bela Lugosi, Universal’s Spanish version features the same script and sets, but different cast and crew. While a success in Latin America, the film is largely forgotten until it re-emerges on home video in 1992. In 2015, the Library of Congress adds the film to the National Film Registry.
