Promoted as the first major studio color feature in 3D, and a remake of 1933’s Mystery of the Wax Museum, it stars Vincent Price and is directed by Andre DeToth, whose blindness in one eye left him unable to perceive the film’s 3D effects. Though met with mixed box office and critical support on its release, the film is now considered a classic.

The father of the modern strobe light received his PhD in electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology when he began using the stroboscope to study synchronous motors. Houdini has been depicted in several film and TV biopics and other fictional dramas that featured him as a character, where he was portrayed by Tony Curtis, Harvey Keitel, Adrien Brody, Guy Pierce and others. He died on Halloween 1926.
