Two Thousand Maniacs! opens across the U.S. in 1964. The Southern gore film is the second of what is known as “The blood trilogy” by director Herschell Gordon Lewis and is shot in 15 days. The Spanish language version of Dracula premieres in Havana, Cuba in 1931. Made simultaneously with the English-language version that stars Bela Lugosi, Universal’s Spanish version features the same script and sets, but different cast and crew. While a success in Latin America, the film is largely forgotten until it re-emerges on home video in 1992. In 2015, the Library of Congress adds the film to the National Film Registry.
