Carl Laemmle is born in Laupheim, Germany in 1867. Universal Studios’ co-founder and film producer is responsible for more than 400 films including The Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Man Who Laughs. His son, Carl Laemmle Jr. helped launch Universal’s classic horror era, producing Dracula and Frankenstein.
