George A. Romero is born in New York City in 1940. The writer/director is known as “The Godfather of the Dead” for creating the modern zombie film genre with Night of the Living Dead and its sequels Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. His films also include The Crazies, Martin and Creepshow. He also created and co-produced the TV series Tales from the Darkside. He died in 2017.
