Filmmaker Jonathan Demme is born in Baldwin, New York in 1944. He began his career as an assistant to Roger Corman and eventually went on to direct over 30 films including many documentaries and rock performance films. He is best known as the Oscar-winning director of The Silence of the Lambs in 1991 and as director of the critically-acclaimed Talking Heads concert movie Stop Making Sense in 1984. He died in 2017.
