The creature, said to be a large black dog with fiery eyes, reportedly bursts through the doors, kills a man and boy, and leaves scorch marks on the door as the church steeple collapsed behind it. Though likely a lightning strike, the legend continues in East Anglia, eventually inspiring Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Hound of The Baskervilles”.
