The Halloween-themed novelty pop song classic features aspiring actor Pickett performing his Boris Karloff impression. The song also had the infamous distinction of enjoying its two-week peak at number one on the Billboard charts during the Cuban missile crisis. The song would also chart in the U.K., make the U.S. charts again in August 1970 and May 1973, be covered by the Beach Boys and The Misfits, and serve as the basis for a movie musical in 1995.
