H. G. Wells is born in Bromley, Kent, England in 1866. The prolific writer, futurist and social critic is one of the founding fathers of science fiction. His works War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man and The Shape of Things to Come have been adapted for film, TV, radio, theater, opera, and comic books, and are considered the most influential works of the genre. He died in 1946.
