Author Stephen King is born in Portland, Maine in 1947. The most well-known and successful horror author of the last half century, he has written more than 250 novels, novellas, or short story collections, with nearly 70 movies, and nearly 40 TV movies, series, miniseries or episodes based on his work. More than a dozen stage versions of his work have also been presented.
