Millicent Patrick is born in El Paso, Texas in 1915. The pioneering artist, makeup artist and special effects designer is most famous for creating the Gill-man in Universal’s Creature From the Black Lagoon movies. She was also one of the first female animators for Walt Disney Studios, creating the demonic Chernabog in Fantasia as well as designing masks for The Mole People, and characters in It Came From Outer Space, This Island Earth, and Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. She died in 1998.
