The Cask of Amontillado is first published in Godey’s Lady’s Book in 1846. Edgar Allan Poe’s classic short story of revenge and burying someone alive is mostly a personal shot at a literary rival. It’s a hit due to Lady’s Book huge circulation at the time. The story is published again a few weeks later in New England Weekly Review, the last during Poe’s life, but adapted multiple times for radio, TV, comic books, opera, stage, music, dramatic reading and film.
