Centers for Disease Control and Prevention publishes “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse” in 2011. The blogpost uses public fascination with zombies to draw attention to all forms of disaster preparedness. The popularity of the post crashes the CDC website and leads to a YouTube contest, a comic book and teacher materials all designed to educate people on preparedness. Two years later, the Canadian province of Quebec tries a similar stunt.
