The Shining opens across the U.S. in 1980. Stanley Kubrick’s film, based on Stephen King’s book, stars Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. Though it’s a box office success, critics mostly dislike the film. Over time, a critical reassessment now holds the film as a classic. King however, still doesn’t care for it.
