Author and poet Edgar Allan Poe is born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1809. The first great American author of horror and mystery, his work includes The Raven, The Tale-Tell Heart, The Premature Burial, The Pit and The Pendulum, and The Fall of the House of Usher. His work has been widely adapting for stage, TV and film, including Roger Corman’s series of Poe-based films in the 1960s. He died in 1849.
