Brazil opens across the U.S. in 1985. Terry Gilliam’s Oscar-nominated dystopian dark comedy is often considered “Orwellian” or “Kafkaesque” in its tale of a man trying to survive a rotting totalitarian world. It stars Jonathan Pryce and features Robert DeNiro and Michael Palin. Three different cuts of the film lead to mixed reactions from audiences, but the director’s cut is considered a classic, wins several awards and remains on several “Best of” lists.
